An interlock driveway is a capital asset — you paid $15k–$40k for it — and it fails quietly. Weed growth between pavers, faded colour, mineral efflorescence, settled sections from failed sand. By the time most homeowners think "I need this cleaned," the joint sand is gone, the pavers are loose, and simple cleaning won't fix it.
Our job is to stop that cycle and restore both appearance and structure.
The 3-stage restoration
Stage 1 — Clean. 18-inch rotary surface cleaner at ~3000 PSI with a joint-detail wand for the perimeter. Weeds, moss, organic staining, atmospheric grime — all out. We intentionally lift the old sand — it's failing anyway.
Stage 2 — Re-sand. Pavers must be bone-dry. Usually a 24-hour gap, which means a second visit. We use polymeric sand (NOT play sand) — the polymer activates with a fine water mist and binds the sand into a semi-flexible weed-resistant joint. Swept in, compacted, swept again.
Stage 3 — Seal (optional). Matte for natural look + UV protection. Wet-look for color enrichment + glossy finish. Two coats with proper recoat window. A good sealer bonds for 3–5 years.
Why polymeric sand matters
Regular joint sand washes out in the first heavy rain. Polymeric sand binds to itself and to the paver edge when activated. It resists ants (the #1 paver-shifter in the GTA), resists weeds, and flexes slightly with freeze-thaw so it doesn't crack out.
The catch: it has to be installed on bone-dry pavers, with the right activation mist (not a flood), and compacted properly. Done wrong and you get white haze on the stones that won't wash off.

What about "paver rejuvenator"?
Marketing term. Most rejuvenators are just a thin sealer with a dye in it. If your pavers need colour restoration, a proper wet-look sealer does it better and lasts longer. We'll tell you honestly whether a sealer + color bomber is worth it on your specific pavers or whether you're better off just re-sanding.

Honest expectations
- Efflorescence (white powder): Surface mostly gone. Deep-set only partially. Stones 10+ years old won't return fully to factory white.
- Rust stains: Oxalic acid pre-treat lifts 80%+ of tire rust, plant rust, and older iron marks. Set-in (5+ years) may leave shadow.
- Oil/grease: Pre-treat with degreaser, then clean. Fresh stains lift fully. Old automotive oil may leave a lighter shadow that will fade with time under sealer.
- Color fade: Cleaning brightens, sealing enriches. Truly sun-faded pavers regain 60–80% of original color with a wet-look sealer.

Pre-treat stains
Rust, oil, and efflorescence get spot pre-treatment before the main clean. No miracles on deep-set stains, but we honestly tell you what will lift.
- Step 03
Surface clean
18-inch rotary surface cleaner at 3000 PSI, plus hand-detail the edges. Joint sand is intentionally displaced — we'll replace it.

Dry + re-sand
Pavers must be bone-dry before polymeric sand goes in. We let the surface dry 24 hours (2 visits) or return next day.
- Step 05
Polymeric sand install
Swept into joints, compacted, swept again. Light mist activates the polymer, which binds the sand into a weed-resistant, ant-resistant joint fill.
- Step 06
Optional sealer
Wet-look (glossy, enriches color) or matte (natural appearance, UV protection). 3–5 year lifespan. Two coats with a 2-hour recoat window.

Common questions about interlock cleaning.
Interlock needs high pressure to get dirt OUT of the joints — but the same pressure displaces the joint sand. So it's a multi-visit process: clean one day, dry, re-sand the next. A standard "pressure wash" of interlock without re-sanding leaves you worse off — you've removed the sand that keeps the pavers stable. We always re-sand.
Optional, but recommended every 3–5 years. Sealer does three things — color enrichment (especially on faded pavers), stain resistance (oil, rust, tire marks), and freeze-thaw protection. The joint polymer also benefits from a sealer top-coat.
Wet-look makes colors richer and gives a glossy finish — think "permanently wet from rain." It's dramatic and popular but not for everyone. Matte preserves the natural stone look while giving UV and stain protection. We bring samples and apply test patches before you commit.
3–5 years in a joint that's properly installed. Signs it needs refresh — weed sprouts, ant mounds pushing sand up, sand depression below paver surface, freeze-thaw heaves. We include a 1-year re-sand touch-up if sand washes out in that window.
Yes, but we'll be honest about expectations. Pavers 20+ years old have sun-faded. The clean gets surface dirt off, but you won't return them to 2005 color without sealer. Sealer with tinted finish is an option for the very faded stones — we'll show you samples.
Surface efflorescence yes. Deep-set efflorescence partially — it takes a specific acid-based cleaner (muriatic at 1:10) and won't fully lift on 10+ year old deposits. We'll walk you through before doing it.
