Clogged gutters are the single most common cause of foundation water infiltration in the GTA. The fix is a $200 twice-a-year clean; the consequence is $15,000 in basement waterproofing. It's the best-value maintenance spend on your house.
What actually goes wrong
Leaves and shingle grit build up in the gutter trough. Water backs up, overflows the edge, and runs down the fascia — soaking the soffit and, eventually, the wall cavity. In a saturated fall storm, water that should have been carried 6 feet away from the foundation drops directly into the flowerbed at the base of your basement wall. Hydrostatic pressure does the rest.
The giveaway signs:
- Dark staining streaks on fascia or soffit
- Water pooling at downspout exits after rain
- "Tiger stripes" on the outside of the gutter
- Water dripping mid-run from the gutter edge (should only come out of downspouts)
- Ice dams in winter that form higher up the roof
How we clean
Hand-scoop. Every job. We see competitors running leaf blowers along the gutter trough — that pushes sediment deeper into the downspout and creates blockages you can't see from the ladder. Hand scoop, bag, haul it out.
Then every downspout is flushed with a garden hose. One of us stays at ground level to confirm flow at the outlet. If water pools back up the trough, we snake it. If the downspout is fully clogged, we may need to disconnect the elbow at the bottom to clear it — which we'll do, then reconnect and verify.
Then we rinse the full run to check pitch. If any section holds water longer than 20 seconds after rinse, the pitch is off. We note it and either re-hang it (if it's a quick adjustment with a bracket) or flag it for a roofer.
Finally: photos. Every downspout, before and after. Delivered with your invoice.
Our typical job
- Single-storey bungalow: 60–90 minutes
- Two-storey detached: 90–120 minutes
- Multi-level with peaked roof: 2–3 hours
- Full clean with fascia wash add-on: half day
What we WON'T do
- We don't walk on asphalt or cedar shingle roofs for safety.
- We don't use blowers down the gutter trough — see above.
- We don't upsell gutter guards on every visit. We quote them when they make sense.
- We don't do gutter repair or replacement — that's a specialist trade and we refer.
How we approach every gutter cleaning job.
- Step 01
Ladder safety + tarp
Ladder stabilizers protect fascia and siding. Tarp protects landscaping below work area. No ladder rungs resting directly on soft aluminum gutter edges.
- Step 02
Hand-scoop debris
Leaves, nests, shingle grit, and sediment pulled by hand into a bucket. No blowers into the downspout.
- Step 03
Downspout flush
Garden hose threaded down every outlet; we confirm clean flow at ground level. Blockages cleared with a plumber's snake if needed.
- Step 04
Gutter line rinse
Full gutter length rinsed back toward the downspout to check pitch. Anything still pooling gets re-adjusted.
- Step 05
Photo documentation
Before + after photo of every downspout and each elevation. Delivered with the invoice the same evening.

Recent reviews for gutter cleaning.
“Booked them after watching my neighbour's team. Photo documentation of every downspout — I knew exactly what I was paying for.”
“We had a blocked downspout flooding the basement window well. They cleared it with a snake and showed me the photos. Fixed a 6-month problem in 20 minutes.”
“New-build neighborhood, lots of shingle grit. They flushed everything, photographed it, and I could actually see the difference. Highly recommend.”
Common questions about gutter cleaning.
Twice a year for most GTA homes — late spring (after maple and oak pollen drop) and late fall (after leaves are down). Homes with overhanging trees may need 3x per year. New builds in Milton with surrounding empty lots may only need annual.
We wipe the fascia edge to remove debris. A full fascia wash (tiger striping removal on the outside of the gutter) is a separate service — it's technically pressure washing and needs different tools and detergent. We'll flag that on the quote if we see it's needed.
We install both mesh and solid-top guards, and we can clean under existing guards. Be aware that even "maintenance free" guards need a clean every 2–3 years — nothing is truly maintenance free. Ask for a guard quote when we're on site.
Yes — everything bagged and hauled to municipal green-bin or compost facilities. No pile of wet leaves left on your lawn.
We document and photograph it, show you, and give you honest options — re-seal, spot-patch, or refer you to a roofer for replacement. We don't do gutter repair or replacement work ourselves (conflict of interest with the cleaning judgement).
Gutter cleaning runs into early December most years, weather permitting. Once sustained freezing hits, we pack in until spring.
Light debris (leaves sitting on a shingled roof) we'll blow off on request. We don't walk asphalt or cedar shingle roofs for safety reasons — for moss treatment we bring separate low-pressure sprayers.
